Short Film: Last Trip to Wroclaw
A short video about a trip from Germany to Poland, the part formerly called “Silesia.” My adoptive mother was a teen in 1945 and her family was forced to evacuate from the city of Breslau as the Red Army advanced.
After the fall of communism, many former inhabitants returned for tourist visits. Mama did so at least once a year, probably 20 visits between 1989 and 2006. I went on 7 or 8 of these visits. Wroclaw is gentle and beautiful, and I found the people there hospitable and kind to the elderly German visitors.
The soundtrack is the song “Moia liubov'” by the Russian group Auktyon. It is about being wounded despite taking your love where they wanted to go.
